| What is the Shocked Mutation in Grow a Garden?
The Shocked Mutation Grow a Garden is an electric-type crop mutation that applies a 100x multiplier to a crop’s base sale price. It is triggered by Thunderstorm weather events, a Lightning Rod, the crafted Shocked Mutation Spray, or the Raiju pet. Visually, Shocked crops glow neon and emit lightning particles. How to get it:
|
If you have been playing Grow a Garden on Roblox for any amount of time, you already know mutations are where the real money lives. Grow a Garden is developed by Splitting Point Studios, Jandel, and BMWLux — and the mutation system is one of their most beloved mechanics. Not all mutations are created equal, though.
The Shocked Mutation sits at the top of the standard mutation tier list, handing your crops a 100x sell value multiplier the moment lightning touches them. A Dragon Pepper worth 100,000 Sheckles becomes 10,000,000 Sheckles instantly. Stack it with another mutation and you are looking at hundreds of millions. This guide covers every way to get the Shocked Mutation, which crops to target, how the stacking math works, and the full upgrade path from Shocked all the way to Stormcharged at 220x.
The Shocked Mutation is an electric-type crop mutation that wraps your plant in a neon glow with tiny lightning particles floating around it. You will know it the moment you see it. What matters beyond the look is the 100x multiplier it applies to the crop’s base sale price. That base price is calculated from the crop’s weight at harvest, so a heavier crop earns more from Shocked than a lighter one of the same type. See ou Guide on All Mutations in GAG.
Here is where Shocked sits relative to all other high-value mutations in the game. Mutations labeled Admin / Event only require special weather conditions that are not available through standard gameplay — which is exactly why Shocked at 100x is the highest multiplier most players can realistically farm on their own:
| Mutation | Multiplier | How You Get It | Difficulty | Availability |
| Stormcharged | 220x | Shocked + Static + Maelstrom fusion | Very Hard | Standard |
| Dawnbound | 150x | Dawn event weather | Hard | Admin / Event only |
| Voidtouched | 135x | Void event weather | Hard | Admin / Event only |
| Celestial | 120x | Celestial event weather | Medium | Admin / Event only |
| Shocked | 100x | Thunderstorm, Lightning Rod, Spray, Raiju | Medium | Standard |
| Rainbow | 50x | Rainbow weather event | Easy | Standard |
| Gold | 20x | Gilded Clover gear (Gear Shop) | Easy | Standard |
| Static | 8x | Raiju chain lightning (default output) | Easy | Standard |
| Wet | 2x | Rain weather event / water sprinklers | Very Easy | Standard |
| Note: Dawnbound, Voidtouched, and Celestial sit above Shocked on the tier ladder, but they require Admin Abuse weather events or limited seasonal conditions. Through regular play, Shocked at 100x is the ceiling until you build toward the Stormcharged fusion at 220x. |
There is more than one path to Shocked, and the right one depends on where you are in the game. Here are all four methods with everything you need for each.
The Thunderstorm is a server-wide weather event that triggers randomly during a session. When it starts, a notification banner appears at the top of your screen, the sky shifts, and you hear thunder sound effects. During the storm, lightning strikes crops at random across all gardens on the server. If lightning hits one of your crops, it can apply either the Shocked Mutation (100x) or the Static Mutation (8x) depending on RNG — and without any gear, you have no control over which.
There are also special Jandel Storm events that occur during certain seasonal or developer-triggered weather periods. These behave identically to regular Thunderstorms in terms of Shocked probability, but tend to be more visually dramatic and may occur alongside event-exclusive mutations. Treat them exactly the same way when planning your farming.
How to make the most of a Thunderstorm:
The Lightning Rod is a gear item you buy from Sam at the Gear Shop for 1,000,000 Sheckles. Place it in your garden and it pulls lightning strikes toward your nearby crops during a Thunderstorm. It does not guarantee Shocked, but it meaningfully improves your odds and redirects strikes from empty land to your planted crops. Also read How to Farm Sheckles Fast?
This is the practical starting point for most players. One million Sheckles is reachable after a few solid farming sessions, and a single Shocked mutation on a Dragon Pepper returns 10x that cost on the spot.
| Critical Rule: The Lightning Rod has exactly 3 uses before it depletes. Each Thunderstorm that passes while the rod is active consumes one use. If you forget to track this and the rod runs out mid-storm, you lose all coverage for the rest of that event. Check your rod’s usage count before each storm and replace it proactively. Keeping a spare in reserve is worth the Sheckles if you farm seriously. |
How the strike targeting works: the rod does not guarantee a strike on a specific crop, it increases the probability of any lightning during the storm hitting a planted crop within the rod’s radius rather than empty ground. Place the rod adjacent to your highest-value crops, not in the center of a mixed garden. If you have rare crops spread across multiple zones, use one rod per zone for full coverage.
Lightning Rod placement checklist:
If you want Shocked on a specific crop with zero RNG, the Shocked Mutation Spray is the answer. It is a craftable, single-use consumable that applies Shocked instantly to any eligible crop, no storm required. This is the only on-demand, guaranteed path to the 100x multiplier.
Here is every step you need:
Honey is a collectible in-game resource produced by the Honey Compressor when your garden contains Pollinated crops. The Pollinated mutation can be applied to crops by the Bee pet or through natural Rain weather events. More Pollinated crops active in your garden equals more Honey per compressor run.
| When NOT to use the spray: Hold it if a Thunderstorm looks imminent and you can wait out the RNG. Hold it if your target crop does not already have Gold or another high-value mutation on it. Hold it if your crop is still growing and not at maximum size. The spray is most powerful as the Shocked step in a planned Gold + Shocked combination, not as a standalone tool on a clean plant. |
The Raiju is a Divine-tier pet with the Lightning Beast trait. It was originally introduced during the Corrupted Event and remains available through trading on the trade board. Once active in your garden, it works entirely on its own. Here is the full loop:
| Critical Rule: Never mark your Shocked crops as Favourited when the Raiju is active. The Favourite system in Grow a Garden protects crops from accidental sale or harvesting by other players — but the Raiju ignores Favourited crops entirely and cannot devour them. If all your Shocked crops are Favourited, the Raiju will not fire. Keep your intended Shocked crops unfavourited so the Raiju can trigger its chain lightning. |
The Static output matters more than it looks: even outside of storms, the Raiju is constantly applying Static (8x) to your crops. Static is one of the three required ingredients for reaching Stormcharged (220x). Every Static crop your Raiju produces between storms is a potential Stormcharged candidate once you have the other pieces in place. The Raiju builds your Stormcharged pipeline passively in the background whether you are actively farming or not.
Raiju strategy:
Not sure which method fits your current progression? Here is the full breakdown side by side:
| Method | Cost | Guaranteed? | Best For | Stormcharged Path? |
| Thunderstorm | Free | No (pure RNG) | New players, zero budget | Possible but slow |
| Lightning Rod | 1M Sheckles | No (boosted odds) | Mid-game farmers | Good stepping stone |
| Mutation Spray | ~16M Sheckles + 250 Honey | Yes | High-value pre-mutated crops | Best for guaranteed Shocked step |
| Raiju Pet (storm) | Trade cost (varies) | No (~20.3% in storms) | Automated passive farmers | Excellent, builds Static too |
For most players, the Lightning Rod is the practical entry point. Get the rod, time your farming around storms, and work toward the Mutation Spray only once you have a Gold-mutated high-value crop ready to receive Shocked. That combination is where the real returns happen.
Shocked is a multiplier mutation, so the higher your crop’s base value, the bigger the Sheckle return when the 100x applies. Putting Shocked on a Carrot is throwing away potential. Here is where to aim:
| Crop | Est. Base Value | With Shocked (100x) | Gold + Shocked (2,000x) | ROI Rating |
| Dragon Pepper | ~100,000 Sheckles | ~10,000,000 Sheckles | ~200,000,000 Sheckles | S-Tier |
| Moon Mango | ~85,000 Sheckles | ~8,500,000 Sheckles | ~170,000,000 Sheckles | S-Tier |
| Ember Lily | ~70,000 Sheckles | ~7,000,000 Sheckles | ~140,000,000 Sheckles | A-Tier |
| Giant Pumpkin | ~60,000 Sheckles | ~6,000,000 Sheckles | ~120,000,000 Sheckles | A-Tier |
| Beanstalk | ~55,000 Sheckles | ~5,500,000 Sheckles | ~110,000,000 Sheckles | B-Tier |
| Cacao | ~45,000 Sheckles | ~4,500,000 Sheckles | ~90,000,000 Sheckles | B-Tier |
| Carrot / Tomato | ~500 Sheckles | ~50,000 Sheckles | ~1,000,000 Sheckles | Avoid |
These values are approximations based on average weight at harvest. Your actual crop weight at pick time determines the exact base sale price, and a heavier crop earns proportionally more from the 100x. Use the Mutation Calculator before committing the Spray to confirm your expected return.
| Pro Move: Already have a Gold-mutated Dragon Pepper? Apply Shocked to that instead of a clean crop. The Gilded Clover gear (available from Sam at the Gear Shop) applies Gold (20x), and Gold + Shocked together gives 2,000x effective value on base price. On a 100,000 Sheckle Dragon Pepper, that is 200,000,000 Sheckles from a single plant. |
Mutations multiply together, they do not add. This is the single most important thing to understand about stacking in Grow a Garden. When you combine Shocked with other mutations, the multipliers are chained together. Here is what that looks like with real numbers:
| Mutations Stacked | Formula | Effective Multiplier | Dragon Pepper (100k base) |
| Shocked only | 100x | 100x | ~10,000,000 Sheckles |
| Wet + Shocked | 2x * 100x | 200x | ~20,000,000 Sheckles |
| Gold + Shocked | 20x * 100x | 2,000x | ~200,000,000 Sheckles |
| Gold + Wet + Shocked | 20x * 2x * 100x | 4,000x | ~400,000,000 Sheckles |
| Rainbow variant + Shocked | Variant bonus * 100x | Varies | Potentially billions |
The formula at its core: take the crop’s base value (calculated from weight), then multiply by each mutation’s multiplier in sequence. Getting the Rain weather event to apply Wet (2x) costs nothing and adds another layer. The Rain event triggers randomly and applies Wet to crops in open gardens without any gear required. Even a simple Wet crop costs you nothing to obtain and meaningfully increases your return when Shocked is stacked on top.
Optimal stacking sequence:
The Shocked Mutation does not multiply a flat fixed number. It multiplies the crop’s base sale price, and that base price is calculated from the crop’s weight at harvest. A heavier crop has a higher base price before any mutation applies, which means Shocked returns more on a heavy plant than a light one of the exact same type. You should visit GAG Farming Tips.
In simple terms: two Dragon Peppers, one twice the weight of the other. The heavier one returns roughly twice as many Sheckles after Shocked, because 100x is scaling from a bigger starting number.
What this means for your Mutation Spray decisions:
Stormcharged is the highest achievable mutation through standard gameplay at 220x. It is not a standalone mutation you hunt for separately. It is a fusion that forms when three specific mutations combine on the same crop.
| Important — Shocked Gets Replaced: When Stormcharged applies, Shocked is removed and replaced entirely by the 220x Stormcharged mutation. Stormcharged does not stack on top of Shocked. It absorbs Shocked, Static, and Tempestuous into a single fused mutation. You gain 120x net over staying at Shocked, so the replacement is always the better outcome — but it surprises a lot of players who expect to see both mutations listed on the crop afterward. |
The three ingredients for Stormcharged:

Should you chase Stormcharged or stop at Shocked right now?
The Shocked Mutation applies a 100x multiplier to a crop’s base sale price. A Dragon Pepper worth 100,000 Sheckles becomes 10,000,000 Sheckles after Shocked is applied.
Beyond the numbers, Shocked crops are easy to spot: they glow with a neon electric effect and emit small lightning particles. It is one of the most visually distinctive mutations in the game. Shocked is classified as an electric-type mutation and sits at the top of the standard farmable mutation tier ladder, below only fusion mutations like Stormcharged (220x) and event-exclusive mutations like Dawnbound (150x) that require Admin weather conditions.
There are 4 methods: (1) wait for a Thunderstorm and let lightning hit your crops randomly, (2) place a Lightning Rod near your crops during a storm to boost strike probability, (3) craft the Shocked Mutation Spray at the Bizzy Bear Crafting Station for a guaranteed application, or (4) use the Raiju pet, which has a ~20.3% chance to apply Shocked per chain activation during a storm.
The best method depends on your Sheckles balance and what pets you own. The Lightning Rod at 1,000,000 Sheckles is the practical entry point for mid-game players. The Mutation Spray at ~16,000,000 Sheckles plus 250 Honey is the right move once you have a high-value pre-mutated crop ready. The Raiju is the most powerful long-term option if you can acquire one through trading.
Yes. Mutations multiply together in Grow a Garden, they do not add.
Gold (20x) combined with Shocked (100x) gives 2,000x effective value on the crop’s base price. Add Wet (2x) from a Rain weather event on top and you reach 4,000x. On a Dragon Pepper with a 100,000 Sheckle base value, that 4,000x combination produces approximately 400,000,000 Sheckles. Always check whether your target crop already carries another mutation before deciding how to use the Shocked Spray, because stacking is where the real Sheckle gains live.
Shocked is removed and replaced by Stormcharged (220x). Stormcharged does not stack on top of Shocked — it absorbs it.
Stormcharged is a fusion mutation that forms when Shocked, Static, and Tempestuous are all present on the same crop simultaneously. When the fusion triggers, all three source mutations disappear and Stormcharged at 220x takes their place. The net result is 120x better than staying at Shocked, so this is always the right trade even though it feels like losing Shocked.
Rare without gear, manageable with the Lightning Rod, guaranteed only with the Spray.
During natural Thunderstorm events, lightning strikes crops at random and can produce Static (8x) instead of Shocked (100x), so getting Shocked from a storm without a Lightning Rod is genuinely uncommon. The Lightning Rod significantly improves your odds but does not eliminate the RNG. The Shocked Mutation Spray is the single guaranteed method — it costs around 16,000,000 Sheckles and 250 Honey but removes all randomness from the equation.
Yes. The Shocked Mutation Spray works with no active storm required.
Craft it at the Bizzy Bear Gear Crafting Station using 1 Cleaning Spray (15M Sheckles), 1 Lightning Rod (1M Sheckles), and 250 Honey. Submit the ingredients, wait 30 minutes (or pay 199 Robux to skip), and then apply it to your crop of choice. Shocked is applied instantly regardless of weather. The Raiju pet also applies Shocked through its chain lightning, but only during active Thunderstorm events, not passively outside of them.
The Lightning Rod has exactly 3 uses before it depletes.
Each Thunderstorm event that passes while the rod is active consumes one use. If the rod depletes during a storm, you lose all coverage for the remainder of that event with no refund. Track your usage count and replace the rod before it runs out — keeping one spare in your inventory is worth the 1,000,000 Sheckles if you actively farm storms.
Shocked gives 100x. Static gives 8x. Both are electric-type mutations, but they are not interchangeable.
Static is the Raiju pet’s default chain lightning output approximately 80% of the time outside of storms. Shocked is what the Raiju produces during active Thunderstorms at a ~20.3% chance per chain. Beyond the multiplier gap, Static has strategic importance as one of the three required ingredients for reaching Stormcharged (220x). Every Static crop your Raiju generates between storms is a potential Stormcharged candidate once you have the Griffin pet available for the Tempestuous step.
Only Favourite Shocked crops if you do not have a Raiju pet active in your garden.
The Favourite system in Grow a Garden protects crops from accidental sale or harvesting by other players. However, the Raiju pet ignores Favourited crops entirely — it cannot devour them, which means it cannot trigger its chain lightning. If your Raiju needs a Shocked crop to fire, all Shocked crops must remain unfavourited. For players without a Raiju, Favouriting is safe and a good habit to protect valuable mutations from accidents.
